TEAM COACHING

Two days in the mountains take your leadership team further than two years in the boardroom

We work with leadership teams where stepping away from daily business makes real development possible: out in the Alps.
Developing leadership, out in the Alps.

Why your team isn't moving forward

You have been discussing the same strategy for months and you are still in the same place. It is rarely a lack of knowledge. It is because nobody is working on mindset, trust and unresolved conflicts. That is exactly where team coaching comes in.

The team is stuck

You put long hours into the work, yet the results still fall short of what would be possible.

You are the bottleneck

You constantly have to push the team and do not know how to get them to pull on their own.

Conflicts stay unresolved

The right solutions are never put into practice because conflicts act like grit in the gears.

What makes our team coaching different

No two hundred slides, no trainer standing at the front handing out knowledge. We take you outdoors, work on what is really holding you back and make sure it carries over into everyday work.

Out into nature

Moving your legs gets your mind moving, and stepping outside the structure that created the problem opens up different solutions.

Psychological safety first

We start in small groups of two or three, where people speak plainly, and then bring what was said back to the whole group.

Learning by experience

In simulations you experience your own dynamics and recognise them instantly when you reflect on them.

Topic, team and organisation

We work on topic, team and organisation at the same time, because only developing together truly moves you forward.

Transfer into everyday work

Two Pit Stop sessions after the days together anchor the results and make sure they have a lasting effect.

How your team works after working with us

The effect is noticeable right after the days in the mountains. What counts afterwards is anchoring it in everyday work, and that is exactly what the Pit Stop sessions are for.

A strategy that holds

You have a more robust, focused strategy and a team that stands fully behind it, whatever scenario comes along.

From complaining to solving

The attitude in the team improves, problems get tackled and excuses lose their place.

Trust and clear communication

Feedback becomes part of everyday work, conflicts are resolved early and decisions are made faster, even under uncertainty.

Two ways to work with us

Most start with the whole team, others begin with the leaders. Both follow the same method.

Two Pit Stop calls

In two sessions we check what has carried over into everyday work and what you should keep working on.

ASCENT, the method behind every team coaching programme

ASCENT is our own method and stands for six steps: Ambition, Strategy, Commitment, Execution, Navigation and Transformation. First we raise the level of ambition, then sharpen the strategy, then build genuine commitment. After that, the focus is on execution, on navigating through resistance and on the change that lasts.
This sequence is why you end up with more than just a good feeling. We never skip a step, even when it gets uncomfortable in the moment. You can download the basics of the method as a free ASCENT guide and check in advance whether it is right for you.

Who is behind Alpine Leadership

Alpine Leadership was founded by Dr. Oliver Wirths and is based in Zurich. Oliver holds a PhD in strategy and organisational development and was Strategy Director at the Lufthansa Group. So he comes from the business world, with all the pressure to deliver results that goes with it. On top of that, he is accredited as a coach by the ICF (ACC), certified in Klärungshilfe for conflict resolution and has his own chapter in the Outdoor and Nature Coaches Handbook.
The second part of the story takes place on the mountain: Oliver climbed El Capitan in a single day and led a paragliding expedition in the Himalayas. This combination is why team coaching with us looks different from traditional providers. We know both sides, the pressure of a leadership role and what happens when a team pushes its limits together.

What clients say about working with us

With his naturally positive mindset, his structured approach and his methodological expertise, Oliver Wirths successfully guided our organisation through the change of digital transformation. He turned the challenge of moving people from hesitation to action, and of convincing them of new structures, processes and tools, into an experience. As the client, I was very impressed by how quickly he won the trust of the management and the staff of the courts and developed our culture through and along the digital transformation, always with a focus on transparency and empowerment. His empathetic and careful work, as well as his persistence, moved us forward rapidly on the path to digital justice and made us pioneers in the DT community of the Swiss cantons.
Roland Hofmann, President of the Cantonal Court of Basel-Landschaft
When Oliver joined our Justitia4ZG programme, business process management and organisational development were still at an early stage, without established methods or a clear conceptual basis. Oliver took over the project management of both subprojects and developed them independently and in a structured way from the ground up. In doing so, he brought in his expertise from projects to digitalise the Swiss justice system. His focus on the business critical core processes and on delivering concrete quick wins, which brought visible progress early on, was particularly valuable.
Our collaboration was shaped by a positive attitude and a “can do” mindset that noticeably strengthened the ability to deliver across the whole team. Not only the subprojects he was responsible for benefited, but the entire programme: today we have more robust structures, clearer processes and a faster pace of implementation. I recommend Oliver without reservation. He achieves noticeable results quickly, gets to grips with complex topics fast and impresses with his high level of professionalism, his integrity and his genuine drive to shape things.
Stefan Schillerwein, Programme Manager Justitia4ZG, Canton of Zug
With Oliver's excellent guidance, I was able to gain clarity within a very short time about the strategic development of my area of responsibility and how I want to bring my role to life. I was impressed by how Oliver used targeted questions to lay bare the fields of action without holding back, and guided me through the core of the challenges towards possible solutions. A special moment for me was a compass exercise with the team, because it showed me how unclear goals can seem to others, even when you believe you have defined and communicated them clearly. I recommend Oliver because he creates noticeable added value for me and my organisation in very little time.
Jöran Glüsen, Head of Process Management at Lufthansa Technik Group
I can recommend working with Oliver as a coach without reservation. Before I worked with him, I was often frustrated at work and let myself be driven too much by fear or anger. Oliver helped me recognise my strengths and develop a clear picture of how I want to handle the ups and downs of building a company. I really value his outside perspective and his ability to give strategic direction to the ideas and topics I bring along. To be honest, I was sceptical at first about hiring a coach again at all. My last one constantly tried to reshape me according to his idea of a strong leader. With Oliver, I never had that feeling once. My company is better positioned for growth today than ever before, and I owe that in large part to Oliver's guidance.
Justin Ludwig, VP Sales Bold Energy
Our biggest challenge was finding common ground for a large team of 16 people whose time with us varies widely, from a few weeks a year to entire seasons. Oliver very quickly created an atmosphere that gave all participants a strong sense of psychological safety. As a result, a real sense of community developed within the group early on. Everyone soon realised: this is worth it for me personally, I can grow here. Together we developed a clear common ground: a shared attitude that everyone understands, supports and can bring into their work.
What I found particularly valuable was the clarity about when leadership needs clear direction and when it is better to deliberately hand responsibility over to people.
The way Alpine Leadership works suited us perfectly: professional, appreciative, outdoors in nature with the right variety of analogue methods. Instead of a flood of slides, there were beautifully designed flipcharts with strong content, good questions, a hike with deep conversations and perfectly timed breaks for reflection.
The impact was clearly noticeable: today our team members bring more of their own ideas and input into the training sessions, the management has more breathing room and our courses have become livelier and of higher quality. In the long term, this strengthens our product, the satisfaction of our participants, loyalty to the team and our reputation. We would recommend Oliver and Alpine Leadership at any time. Professionally and personally, this was clearly premium for us.
Lucas Läubin, Founder & Managing Director Freiflug
Oliver asks the right questions, listens carefully and guides conversations brilliantly. He uses a range of methods, including nature itself, to make topics tangible and anchor them for the long term. I can only recommend getting in touch with Oliver to talk about working together. A day that was well worth it, and certainly not the last!

The first step is a conversation

Tell us briefly where your team stands right now. Together we will clarify in the intro call whether team coaching is the right format, and if we are not the right people, we will tell you.

Frequently asked questions before your first enquiry

Here you will find answers to the questions leaders and HR managers ask us most often.

What is team coaching?

Team coaching is guided work on how an entire team works together. It is about trust, roles, conflicts, decision paths and shared direction. A training course passes on knowledge, while we work on what is specifically holding you back. With us, this mostly takes place outdoors, because distance from the office makes conversations more honest.

Who is team coaching suitable for?

For leadership teams and departments that need to find a common direction or come back together. Typical clients are executive boards, divisional and departmental management in SMEs, public administrations and growing companies. HR departments also approach us when a leadership team is facing a major change or the feedback culture no longer works.

What exactly happens during the time in the mountains?

You start with a preliminary meeting in which we clarify the goal and the sensitive issues. On site, movement, work in small groups, simulations and reflection with the whole group alternate, outdoors as well as in indoor blocks. This is followed by two Pit Stop calls in which we check what has actually carried over into everyday work.

Why outdoors and not in a seminar room?

Because the solution can rarely be found within the structure that created the problem. Movement and nature demonstrably change how people think and talk to each other. Outdoors, nobody is on their laptop on the side, everyone is truly present. For subject matter and strategy work we deliberately go indoors, because results are easier to capture there. The room is also the backup if the weather does not play along.

How much does coaching for leaders cost?

We do not quote flat rates, because format, group size and effort vary greatly. An introductory format of half a day is in a completely different range from support over several days for an entire leadership team. In the free intro call we clarify your needs, and afterwards you receive a concrete offer.

Does our team need to be fit or have mountain experience?

No. We choose the terrain and activity so that everyone can take part, regardless of fitness and equipment. The focus is on movement, distance and shared experiences. Where a format demands more, we say so clearly in advance and bring in a mountain guide if needed.

How much time do we need to set aside?

Depending on the format, two days in the mountains, plus the preliminary meeting and two short online Pit Stop calls, spread over about three months. This commitment is deliberately kept lean, because leadership teams cannot block out entire weeks. What matters is how deep you go on site.

Why do we address our clients by their first names?

Because we keep things informal with all of our clients. In Switzerland, everyone switches to first names above 2,000 m. Working as equals is the prerequisite for honest conversation within a team. If you would rather keep things formal, just say so in the first conversation, that is no problem for us.
